Can 304 stainless steel screws be hardened?
September 4, 2023
Regarding the inquiry of stainless steel screws,
the customer said that the stainless steel 304 screws currently used can meet his requirements for salt spray testing,
but the strength of stainless steel cannot meet his needs.
Can the stainless steel screws be hardened? Our engineers taught us a lesson.
Austenitic stainless steel 304 and stainless steel 316 cannot be hardened and heat treated.
The strength of ordinary stainless steel screws is 4.8. If high-strength stainless steel screws are required
stainless steel 410 screws can be used.
SUS410 is a nickel-free stainless steel and a type of martensitic stainless steel.
It has good hardenability, high hardness, toughness, good corrosion resistance,
thermal strength and cold deformation performance,
and good shock absorption.
High or low-temperature tempering is required, but tempering between 370-560°C should be avoided.
